Harbor Place is a beautifully restored 1909
house, centrally located in the downtown Muskegon historic district, at 1148 Fourth
Street. It is a welcoming and pleasant setting, retaining the comfort and warmth
of a home rather than an office building. It is a beige stucco four story house
with a colorful history.

The story of Harbor Place began in 1909 when Mary Todd Larwill of Muskegon, Michigan
commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to design a home for her. He took on the project
and the building is cited in a book listing Mr. Wright's works. However, when the
Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation was contacted for verification, it was learned that
he did not design the building because "1909 was not a good year for Mr. Wright."
Apparently, 1909 was the year Frank Lloyd Wright left the country to live in France
with the wife of one of his clients. Mrs. Todd Larwill’s house was designed
by one of the associates who took over Mr. Wright's projects.
Mrs. Todd Larwill was a 65 year old widow when she moved into her new home. She
occupied what is now called Harbor Place with her unmarried adult son, her adult
daughter and son-in-law. After its original owners, Harbor Place has experienced
many functions, from dance studio to apartments and now psychological services.
